We all love curls, but sometimes controlling curly hair may be difficult and if you don’t take proper care of it, you might even experience frizz and dryness. Having a healthy, defined and controlled curls are easier than you may think.

That is why we listed our top 10 tips on how to care for your curly wigs, whether you are dealing with loose waves or kinky curls, your wigs will always look stunning if you follow the guideline below.

Top 10 Curly Wig Care Tips

1- Always detangle your hair with a wide tooth comb: Having the right detangling tools is essential for girls with curly hair. Wide-tooth combs can remove knots in your hair without changing its natural texture or making it frizzier, but you will have to be gentle with your curls. Take your time when detangling your hair, otherwise you will break your hair and it will start shedding.

2- Avoid excess mousse: mousse is an amazing product for curly hair. It can give you defined curls and that wet look that we all love, but excessive usage of hair mousse can create split ends, hair breakage, and fizziness by drying out the hair strands, especially at the ends.

3- Use a little bit of Coconut oil: This oil does wonders for your hair. It can aid in the restoration of damage, remove frizz and also helps to lock in the moisture. All you have to do is to apply the coconut oil at the ends of your hair and keep it in for at least 30 minutes. Do it just before you wash your wig. Follow our step-by-step guide on how to wash your wigs

4- Try to always air dry your hair – Air drying is always the best option for the curls since it prevents heat damage and split ends. Another good approach to air dry your curly hair is to braid it while it's still humid. Braiding your hair will help to control the curls while they get dry minimizing the frizz and creating more defined curls

5- Prefer a diffuser instead of a blow dryer – For those days when you can’t wait for your hair to air dry, always prefer low heat and a diffuser to protect your curls. Heat styling it using high temperatures can eliminate the natural texture of your curls which will make them dull. Always apply a heat protectant before exposing your curly hair to the heat.

6- Sleep with a bonnet or on satin pillows - the best way to preserve your curls is to remove your wig before going to bed, but sometimes it is not possible, especially if you have invested time in installing it with glue and want to keep it on for a few more days. For those days when you have to sleep with your wig on, satin bonnets or satin pillows are an essential item to safeguard your curls. They protect your hair and eliminate friction while you toss and turn at night.

7- Avoid excess washing: curly hair is prone to becoming dry and excessive washing might deplete your hair's natural moisture and protection. Try to review your caring routine or how frequently you use your curly wig so you can minimize your washing frequency. Another good tip is to look for hydrating elements in your conditioner which will help to seal your hair's cuticle and protect it for longer.

8- Use your fingers to restore the curls after washing: this technique is called Finger coiling and is an excellent method for enhancing the definition of your curls. It may also help you restore your curl pattern, especially after straightening. There are many tutorials on youtube that can teach you exactly how to achieve the perfect curls using this technique.

9- Store your wig carefully: To keep the curls in place and avoid further tangling, gently cover the wig with a hair net. Then you can place it on a wig stand or if you don’t have one, you can lay your wig flat inside a satin bag or the LolaSilk box it came in. It is important that you can close the box or the bag to avoid dust.

10- Trim the ends from time to time: When you feel your curly wig is starting to become too frizzy and knotted you can trim the ends a few centimeters. Don’t cut too much otherwise your wig might loose its beautiful style.

It is not difficult to maintain a healthy curly hair. All you need to do is to incorporate those tips into your haircare routine and daily lifestyle and will you set-up your wig for success. Just remember to be gentle with your curls, reduce the heat and keep it moisturized.  While practicing how to care for curly hair takes some time, you will see that it is well worth it.
